One of the outputs for Strategic IP Management for Effective R&I in Asian Higher Education (SPIRE) is Unsyiah Intellectual Property (IP) Policy. Final draft for this IP Policy was discussed, prior to being singed by Unsyiah Rector. Different from before, due to Covid-19 pandemic and to minimize the spread of corona virus, the SPIRE team from Unsyiah conducted the IP Unsyiah meeting by using virtual system. This meeting attended by all the members involved by SPIRE project. The meeting was opened by Prof. Dr. Ir Samadi, M.Sc as coordinator for the project and also moderator for this meeting. The other participants for this meeting were Prof. Dr. Taufik Fuadi Abidin, S.Si., as the head of the Institute for Research and Community Services - LPPM, M.Tech., Dr. Abdullah, M.Sc., Dr. Akhyar, ST. MP. M.Eng. IPM., Dr. Sri Walny Rahayu, S.H., M.Hum, dan Zulfadhli, ST., MT., IPM, and Muhammad Rizqasyah, S.IP., as minutes for this meeting.

This meeting was carried out on Friday (10 April 2020). As information, the IP Policy draft discussed for this meeting have been disseminated before. After getting some suggestions from participants during dissemination, the team revised some inputs from participants. The main topic for this discussion was about the involvement of research center under the Institute for Research and Community Services – LPPM which was not clear stated in the IP Policy and also share of royalty for commercialization products.

The budget for patent maintenance by Unsyiah was also part of the important points to be discussed for this virtual meeting. After getting certificate from Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Unsyiah team for commercialization product should evaluate whether the product will be paid or not by Unsyiah. This meeting took place for 2 hours and all the team agreed to revise some points during discussion before being signed by Rector on 20 April 2020.
