Dissemination and Discussion of Unsyiah Intellectual Property (IP) Policy

 

At the beginning of the 2020 year, SPIRE (Strategic IP Management for R&I in Asian Higher Education) at Unsyiah conducted one of the SPIRE programs “Dissemination and Discussion of Unsyiah Intellectual Property (IP) Policy”. Since 2019, Unsyiah IP Policy has been formulated and discussed by the SPIRE team at Unsyiah and also presented to Rector and Vice Rectors before being dessemined to the faculty’s level, researchers and reviewers at Unsyiah. The number of participants attending in this activity were about 100 participants consisting 60 participants representing from 12 faculties at Unsyiah and the rests were from the senate, the head of Unsyiah institutions, researchers and reviewers as informed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Samadi, M.Sc. as the coordinator of SPIRE at Unsyiah and also the Dean of Agriculture Faculty.

The Dissemination of the Unsyiah IP Policy was officially opened by the Vice Rector for Academics Affair Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan. In the opening speech, Prof. Marwan stated that Unsyiah fully supported all the IP activities programed by the Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM). Unsyiah will give priority to the researchers who have right or patent potential through financial support. In addition, Unsyiah also provides by giving incentives to the researchers who registered their invention to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Republic Indonesia.

Furthermore, with the Unsyiah IP Policy will the legal formal to researchers for convenience, flexible innovation and to protect their invention from copyright piracy, plagiarism, transfer of right by non-responsible people as stated by the head of the Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM) Prof. Dr. Taufik Fuadi Abidin, S.Si. M.Tech.

As the institution that have been given right holders of research results from researchers, Unsyiah should institutionally manage Unsyiah IP under the Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM) for the better purpose.

During dissemination, many suggestions from participants such as from Dr. Irham, Dr. Ichsan Sulaiman, Azwardi, M.Pd, Prof. Eka Meutia Sari, Prof. Nasrul AR and Dr. Dirhamsyah to SPIRE team. All suggestions will be further discussed by the SIPRE team before being legalized by Unsyiah Rector. The SPIRE team involved for this activities were Prof. Dr. Samadi, M.Sc.; Prof. Dr. Taufik Fuadi Abidin, S.Si. M.Tech.; Dr. Sri Walny Rahayu, SH. M.Hum, Dr. Abdullah, M.Sc and Zulfadhli, ST. MT.
